Recently I came across three RedHOT WordPress plug-ins that give some major ’luv’ back to commentors, in the form of backlinks. One of these plug-ins is called CommentLuv.
CommentLuv, by The ComLuv Network, follows the address that your visitors put into the “website” field when they comment and looks for a feed of their blog’s entries. If it finds what it’s looking for, it will add a link to your commentors’ latest post below their comments! Rocks, right?
It gets better. If your readers register their blogs at ComLuv.com, the CommentLuv WordPress plug-in will then show them a list of 10 of their most recent posts and allow them to choose which one to link to!
There is one thing that you and your registered blog subscribers need to be aware of if you use this plug-in. You may run into a situation in which you or they receive a message of “Banned for having 3 feed errors.” Don’t worry; it sounds bad, but it’s not.
When I installed the CommentLuv WordPress plug-in and submitted a test comment, it worked perfectly. But today (about a day later), I tested again and received this error message when I went to choose a post to link to. The error gives a web address to go to and get the URL in error unbanned. I went there, submitted my link and received notice that the link I submitted was not in the error table of the database!
So, I paced around a bit (in my head) and eventually submitted a ticket to the plug-in’s support site. —(if you’re wondering whether it has good support, here’s your answer)— I don’t think that 10 minutes went by before I received a response from Mr. Andy Baily.
“if you’re commenting whilst logged on the you need to make sure that your site url is stored in your profile, commentluv uses that value for the url when a user is logged on (because there is no url field for logged on users)“
I was logged on…
Problem solved in under an hour (less than 15 minutes, technically, as I responded to one message about 30+ minutes after he sent it).
So, in short, when you download and install the free CommentLuv WordPress plug-in, you’ll need to make sure that your website, listed in your profile, has a feed (WordPress, Blogger, etc.). You could also post that on your subscription page, as well, to let your blog subscribers know.
Thanks again, Andy! 8)
