Not lazy? Download Piwik Web Analytics and install it to your website hosting account.
Okay, on to the nitty gritty. You need a web analytics program. Download Piwik or, if you’re in a hurry (or lazy), just open a Govgle Analytics account. In either case, you are going to have to put code at the bottom of your web pages.
Done? Now, all you have to do is add a short description to the end of any link that leads to one of your tracked pages. Simple as that. LITERALLY! Here’s how.
Let’s say that you have a page at eZine Articles on an article titled, “Po’ Man’s Web Tracking.” Oh, and your website is YourWebSite.com…
A link from your (hu-hum) “resources” box to your website might look something like this:
http://www.yourwebsite.com/?eZineArticlesPoMansWebTracking
Once this has been clicked, look at pages (or page views) in your analytics and you will see:
/?eZineArticlesPoMansWebTracking
Note that, if your link already has a variable with a question mark, you need to use an ampersand. So, instead of:
?eZineArticlesPoMansWebTracking
use
&eZineArticlesPoMansWebTracking
Just keep in mind that the ampersand always comes after the question mark.
This works everywhere: Blog comments (hint), forum signatures, e-mail messages, etc…
Now you will know exactly which campaigns are working for you, even if you cannot afford high-priced web services and you do not have the knowledge to set up your own ad serving program (or you are just too lazy to do the work)!
